Teething

So I'm pretty sure Mae is teething and is really miserable, so if anyone has any pointers that would be awesome. She seems to be calming down now but she has been crying for at least 45 min. Tried nursing, soothing tablets, baby Tylenol, rocking and nothing seems to work. I think she has cried herself out for now but any ideas would be awesome. Thanks.

Poor Mae (and mommy).
Years ago they used to have these teething rings that you put in the freezer and then the babies would gnaw on them and it helped numb the gums a little. So many things have changed since my last baby though. Good luck!

they still have those freezer things....poor mae and rae:( i am definately not looking forward to teeth. you could pull a meet the fockers...?:)lol.

**also, i got almost 3 oz yesterday and 2 today. my boobs aren't as full in the morning cuz she's not sleeping through the night. but it is going better than the first time i tried. i have 50 freezer bags i'm gonna fill up and then i'm done. also, i'm leaving jov for the first time on the 28th--that is if mom is here and not in spokane. i'm way nervous, but if it had to be anyone watching her i'm glad it's mom.

Teething was the worst! I know this may sound crazy, and you will have to decide how you feel about it, but we gave Matthew frozen carrot sticks to gnaw on. They really worked for us...good luck!

They make these teething rattles and they sell at target, babies r us, and most other stores on the baby isle. They have a rattle handle and a mesh bag on top that you can put food in. Frozen apples chunks, or frozen veggies or even ice cubes....they can knaw on it to ease the pain, and get the taste of food at the same time, plus it's easy for baby to hold on to. They are under $3 each and my son LOVES his. Better than the frozen teething rings because babies don't like holding onto the frozen ring.

Hey girly -- teething can be rough. One of things I did for Johslyn was frozen bananas. Cut one in half (and you can stick a popsicle stick in it if you think the coldness of the banana is going to bother her.) Just give her the banana to chew on for a little while. When it unfreezes, it'll just be mush so she can continue to gnaw on it if she wants.

Back in the old days, folk'd rub whiskey or rum on babies' gums. I wouldn't recommend it - as you might go to jail for it - ha ha.

If the banana thing doesn't work out, try another food. I saw someone recommended carrots. That'll work too. Something hard but smooth. If she can press her gums into it, the pressure will relieve some of the pain. (It might also take her mind off of it for a minute, which is half the battle sometimes.)

Hi Rach,
I came across this site today: http://www.thesoftlanding.com/shop.html They have great teething stuff and it's all non-toxic, as in a different kind of plastic (not target) that is safe for kids. They have the teething rings on there and different textures which I read is supposed to help eventually with talking. Anyway, some of it is really reasonably priced. Good luck. We miss you.

BTW, we're still considering the W.Seattle house. :)

Rach, it's miserable for you when Mae's miserable! This is just the first of many miserable things! (don't mean to be a downer). She'll get through it and so will you.*S* You are an awesome Mom!
